Consulting Biography
Dr. R. Thomas Dewing has spent over 40 years in public education. He has served as an elementary and middle school teacher, instructional coordinator, and educator of gifted children. Tom was the gifted education coordinator for one of the largest districts in Illinois before becoming principal of Thomas Dooley School in Schaumburg, Illinois, which won an NCLB Blue Ribbon Award in 2005. Tom was named as the Most Influential Educator (Naperville) and a finalist for Illinois Teacher of the Year. Beyond his service as a public school educator and administrator, Tom has taught graduate courses at several colleges and universities throughout the Midwest. For over three decades, he has worked with schools in nearly 40 states as a Silver Strong & Associates trainer and consultant. Tom has presented for a variety of regional, national, and international conferences.
These include the Illinois Science Conference, Illinois Associated for Gifted Children, National Staff Development Council, and Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. He has also worked with numerous publishing companies and education organizations, such as Harcourt Brace, Educational Testing Service, and the Illinois State Board of Education, to create curricular teaching materials and state and national assessments.
